Jack Lavoie has purchased lottery tickets at the same Shell station in
Newport News, Virginia almost every day for a decade and was stunned
when store clerk Susan Perez, someone he had gotten to know over the
years, allegedly tricked him out of his winning $600 lottery ticket.
Lavoie says that Perez told him his prize was only $40. He learned of
the mischievous deed when his son in California called him to
congratulate him on his winnings. Lavoie says he thought he had only
gotten three of the numbers, but his son pointed out that he had in fact
gotten four, because he always played his kids' birthdays. When Jack
went back to the gas station, he was told the ticket had been lost. He
took the issue to the Virginia Lottery which has led to Perez's
indictment on felony larceny charges. To make matters worse for Perez,
Lavoie says all she had to do was ask for money if she needed it - he
would have given it to her. Perez did not comment, but the Shell store
manager said Perez no longer works there.
Trinidadians love to bet we all know that but they need to be carefully when changing there lottery tickets. It may worth more than what they expected.
